House System

At Hodge Hill Girls’ School, our House System was launched in the 2021/2022 academic year, alongside the introduction of our School Council. The House System plays a vital role in building a community, encouraging healthy competition, and developing leadership across the school.

We have five House Groups, each named after a trailblazing woman whose achievements reflect the values we strive to uphold: resilience, ambition, courage, creativity, and justice. These figures were chosen for their global impact, inspirational journeys, and enduring legacies.

Yousafzai House – Named after Malala Yousafzai

  • A global advocate for girls’ education and the youngest-ever Nobel Peace Prize laureate, Malala represents the power of youth voice, determination, and standing up for what’s right—even in the face of adversity.

Dench House – Named after Judi Dench

  • A world-renowned actress and campaigner for the arts, Judi Dench embodies creativity, excellence, and lifelong dedication to her craft—encouraging pupils to embrace the arts and self-expression.

Curie House – Named after Marie Curie

  • The first woman to win a Nobel Prize—and the only person to win in two different sciences—Marie Curie’s groundbreaking research and perseverance in male-dominated fields inspire our pupils to pursue STEM and break barriers.

Parks House – Named after Rosa Parks

  • A symbol of courage and social justice, Rosa Parks' refusal to give up her seat sparked a movement that changed the world. Her legacy reminds us of the importance of standing up for equality and human rights.

Williams House – Named after Serena Williams

  • One of the greatest athletes of all time, Serena Williams is known not only for her record-breaking tennis career but also her advocacy for women's rights, mental health, and resilience in the face of criticism.

Pupil Leadership

Pupils in each house have the opportunity to become House Captains and House Leaders, important leadership roles that help shape school life.

  • House Captains take on a school-wide leadership role, representing their house across all year groups. They lead events, competitions, and act as the pupil's voice, helping to create a vibrant school community. Captains are selected through a written application and are awarded a badge and certificate, a valuable addition to college applications and future opportunities.

  • House Leaders represent their individual year group within their house. They work alongside Captains and staff to coordinate events and champion their peers.

Through our House System, pupils develop leadership, collaboration, and pride in being part of a wider community that celebrates achievement and positive values.
