Hodge Hill Girls’ School is rooted in the aspirational values of its community. Our educational intent at Hodge Hill Girls’ School, is inspired by our school’s motto: ‘Educating tomorrow’s women today’. As Headteacher, I fully appreciate my privilege of being in this position to inspire the successful women of the future. Our team of dedicated and professional staff ensure that the ambitions of all our young people are respected equally, in a thriving culture of encouragement and achievement. We make no apologies for having extremely high expectations for all our young people. As professionals, we model and demand the very highest standards in attendance, punctuality, uniform, equipment for learning, behaviour, learning in class and homework. Our standards are in place to best prepare our young people to leave school and be able to flourish in an increasingly competitive world.
Our ‘PRIDE Values’ of Partnerships, Respect, Inspiration, Determination and Excellence, are the foundation stones from which our ambitious and caring ethos is built. We strive to educate all aspects of our young people, believing that it is a moral imperative to support in their ‘holistic’ development. In collaboration with several university partners, our curriculum promotes all the necessary virtues required for our pupils to become highly successful. Our school stakeholders share the ambition for Hodge Hill Girls’ School to become one of the highest performing non-selective secondary schools in the country in the coming years.
We have a strong culture of safeguarding permeating through all aspects of school life. Hodge Hill Girls’ School exceeds the statutory requirements in all systems and processes necessary to keep our pupils safe. Hodge Hill Girls’ School is fully committed to the inclusivity of all members of the school community. In our school we celebrate uniqueness and focus upon all our many shared characteristics that unite us. All young people are cared for, respected and treated with dignity. The ‘voices’ of all young people are heard and valued. Our schools Behaviour System educates, sanctions, rewards and is designed to facilitate personal growth. Hodge Hill Girls’ School is committed to working with external agencies and collaborating through community outreach work. Through our thriving Personal Development provision, we aim for all pupils to develop ‘holistically’, becoming confident citizens who accept themselves and all other people.
It is our intent to ensure that our school’s curriculum is broad, balanced, aspirational, exciting and engaging for all learners. At Hodge Hill Girls’ School, we believe that all young people should be able to access their full curriculum entitlement. We are committed to having an ambitious vision to support youngsters with Special Educational Needs and / or Disability. The school’s curriculum is underpinned by a clear strategy for oracy, numeracy and literacy, which includes a thriving culture of reading. We are fully committed to all our young people being able to access a wide range of extracurricular and enrichment opportunities, having access to a plethora of experiences to enhance their cultural capital. Pupils are encouraged to ‘think’ in lessons and are suitably challenged to reach their potential. Pupils are encouraged to ‘take risks’ and to accept that challenges in learning will be encountered. Through collaboration with teachers, young people are equipped with the confidence to problem-solve and to overcome any difficulties encountered. Teachers have ‘no limits’ in their expectations for all learners, with Hodge Hill Girls’ School pupils instilled with the belief that they ‘can achieve anything’ that they aspire for, with any possible barriers to this success understood, but positively challenged.
We want all our pupils to look back on their time at Hodge Hill Girls’ School as being a very happy and one that was filled with many opportunities and fond memories. We want our pupils to make a positive contribution to the world, inspired by how they have developed with us here in school. Ultimately, we want our young people ‘to leave with a respect for all people as equals and an appreciation of the common good. We want all pupils to leave with a world of opportunities at their feet; for them to reach their fullest potential; to believe in themselves and understand that they can achieve anything they aspire to.
